Maria Elena Reyes
Founder & Executive Chef
With 20+ years in the kitchen, Maria Elena built Cafe Rio from a street cart into Las Vegas's most beloved Mexican restaurant. Her grandmother's recipes live on in every dish.
It all started with a family recipe and a food truck parked outside a Las Vegas community center. Founder Maria Elena Reyes grew up watching her grandmother grind fresh chilies every morning, layer slow-braised meats, and serve them on hand-pressed tortillas. She refused to let that tradition fade.
In 2009, Maria Elena brought Cafe Rio to a brick-and-mortar space on Maryland Pkwy. What began as a neighborhood gem quickly became a Las Vegas institution — a place where every plate reflects the care, culture, and community that inspired it.
We source produce locally whenever possible, partnering with Nevada growers for seasonal freshness.
Every sauce, marinade, and tortilla is prepared fresh in our kitchen — no shortcuts, no shortcuts.
From catering local events to sponsoring neighborhood programs, we're proud to give back to Las Vegas.
Everything we do at Cafe Rio is guided by these principles — from how we cook to how we treat our guests and community.
We believe food should nourish and delight. Every ingredient is chosen for quality, and nothing sits on a shelf overnight.
Our chefs aren't just cooking — they're telling a story through flavor. Every dish is a labor of love and cultural pride.
We treat every guest like family. Warm, genuine service isn't a policy here — it's who we are.
We honor Mexican culinary heritage and invest in the Las Vegas community through local partnerships and outreach.
